Episode summary

In this final episode of the What's Wrong with Our Field? series, I tackle what I believe is a significant gap in child-centered play therapy: research. We have decades of foundational research supporting CCPT, along with newer studies examining the model with specific populations and presenting concerns. But much of our foundational literature is now decades old, and I believe we need a new generation of research examining CCPT itself—its theory, its efficacy, and how its outcomes compare with more directive approaches.

I share my vision for what that research could look like, including current comparative studies of directive and nondirective approaches, and why stronger contemporary evidence could influence graduate education, medical and legal systems, managed care, and the broader mental health field. Most importantly, this episode is a call to action.
